Ride the Wave

Chris Moore

Posted on September 30th, 2011

“…No one had ever ridden waves that big. Period. So we didn’t know if we were going into a black hole never to be seen again. Regardless of how it was perceived from the outside, we operated conservatively within the environment. We always say: Ride to ride another day. We go out there with the attitude that we’re going to do it in a way that we can do it again tomorrow.” – Laird Hamilton One of my favorite shows in recent memory is ICONOCLASTS. The basic premise is that you take two very influential, respected, creative, inspiring, empowering people from two completely different backgrounds and you put them together for a little while. You let them live inside each other’s world for a…

Quick Tips to Ensure Your Failure

Chris Moore

Posted on September 29th, 2011

I apologize. I thought you were looking to improve your overall physical and mental well-being. This was all my mistake. Please, let’s start just over fresh. Maybe with the easy stuff first. You know all those mistakes you’ve made? Those little miss-steps? I recommend you just ignore them. It wasn’t your fault. It probably had something to do with someone else. You were just distracted by your job…Your coach. Your girlfriend. Your dog. It even could have been that shady sandwich you ate at lunch. Dude, it was hiding out in the back of the fridge for a week and a half! And really, what’s the use in looking back? The past is the past. There’s probably nothing to learn from that sort of…

Training Wisdom From Mike Tyson

Chris Moore

Posted on September 27th, 2011

Sometimes you find great advice in the most unexpected places. During a routine evening of whinding down the hours on the internet, I came across the following quote. “Everyone has a plan, until they get punched in the mouth.” – Mike Tyson Now, on its face, it’s easy to disregard this as just another crazy statement from an all around crazy guy. But there’s actually a brilliant training lesson here. When it comes to training discussions, I typically hear a few recurring threads. “How often? How long? How many sets and reps? How do you plan it out your training? Should you plan it out? What about Crossfit? I’d like to also get stronger. Maybe I should try powerlifting? “Should I periodize? If so,…

What life’s all about…

Chris Moore

I have my moments. We all have our moments. We become filled with doubt. We feel sorry for ourselves. We make excuses for why we cannot do something. It just seems to be a default emotion for many people. A faulty setting, if you will. How do you get beyond that? I’m a firm believer that every so often you just need to calibrate. You need to put shit into perspective. Sometimes, you can reset yourself. But other times the purge, the cleanse comes via an experience. An emotion. A song. A smell. A hardship…A picture. Tonight I came across an image that is perhaps the most powerful I’ve seen all year. Whatever I was thinking about before…that’s gone. I’m simply left in awe.…

The Curse of Medium

Chris Moore

Posted on September 22nd, 2011

I really love coffee…Really. I drink it throughout the day, first thing in the morning, during lunch, even during a workout. It’s my go-to beverage. The flavor is certainly a huge reason for that. Slowly drinking a well-brewed cup is completely gratifying. It should leave you wanting for nothing else. It’s the perfect ending to a great meal. Good enough to replace the cliché post-coidal cigarette… Well, maybe. Just be careful not to spill piping hot fluid on your naughty bits. I don’t want any injury related hate mail.
