You’re Too Damn Aware!

Chris Moore

Posted on November 29th, 2011

I haven’t strapped on a football helmet in 10 years. It doesn’t feel like that long ago, really. While I find it a very essential part of my own history, I’m anything but reminiscent. In fact, every year come late summer I drop down onto my knees and praise all of creation that I no longer have to subject myself to the incessant barking and posturing of washed-up meat-head coaches. No, I’m very happy to report that I now have more important things to do. But that doesn’t mean that I do not pay attention to what’s going on in the sport. While I’m not really concerned with who wins, I don’t want to be the one guy at the local Super Bowl Party left to cheer…

My Ten Commandments

Chris Moore

Posted on November 22nd, 2011

There is a rather famous list of commandments floating around out there on the internet. You may have read them. While that list is noteworthy, I think we can all do better. Each of us has the ability to sit down and define our own commandments. After all, who knows you better? Who is the first account witness to all of your highest highs, and your lowest lows? Who better to hold you accountable? …Exactly. It just takes a bit of honesty. This is my current list. I say current because I’m now old enough to know how things change. With every year, month, and day that I live, I’m constantly making new observations. I’m forming new beliefs and opinions. I can laugh at…

Is it really that easy?

Chris Moore

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Loa-tzu Earlier this week I put up a post extoling the virtues of a simple walk.  While it’s not the best form of exercise you can choose, I suggested that it works absolute wonders on the mind. If you’re troubled, stressed, confused, nervous, depressed, detached, you can start turning things around by just stepping away for a few minutes, putting one foot in front of the other. But I’ll be damned…I just read a news story that reminds me that the simple act of walking can indeed be a pretty great source of exercise for almost everyone (Thanks to Mark Morford for the link. If you haven’t read his stuff, add his column to your bookmarks right…

Mind the Hum

Chris Moore

Posted on November 14th, 2011

I usually do not spend much time walking. That’s why I find it odd that, as of late, I can’t seem to stop doing it. I feel compelled to venture outdoors at least once a day. It only takes 30 minutes, which is just enough time to stretch the limbs, reset the mind, and get some waves of sun light across my face. That last little bit probably explains the initial urge. If you’re paying attention, you’ll know that just about every warm body with a pulse now a’days is deficient in Vitamin D. This is a consequence of a modern lifestyle that features one-too-many hours of compulsive indoor keyboard pecking and reality TV consumption. A quick dose of sun is all it takes…

Be an Artist

Chris Moore

Posted on November 3rd, 2011

There are a lot of people out there who are terribly mistaken. It’s a common trap to fall into. You see a successful business man. Someone with a popular blog or Twitter feed. It’s easy to say to yourself, “Hey, why not me? I’ve got ideas.” The truth is that this world is filled with aspiring Chef’s, Photographers, Painters, Writers, Coaches, Athletes, spiritual Guru’s…you name it. It’s also true that most of these people are Poseurs.  I refer you to the Urban Dictionary: Main Entry: po·seur Pronunciation: pO-’z&r Function: noun Etymology: French Date: 1872 : a person who pretends to be what he or she is not : an affected or insincere person Most people start with their goal in mind. This is a…
