I’ve been getting quite a few messages lately regarding a dreaded, ancient enemy of the strength athlete…tendonitis! Here are my thoughts. I’ve never had a serious injury in the weight-room, even with a training approach that has included multiple max effort lifts per week for years now. But the ‘itis? …Yes, this is a reoccurring issue that is almost guaranteed if you train hard enough, and for long enough. What can you do about it? Well, I think you’ve got a few options. First, ice and anti-inflammatory drugs can certain take away the acute pain. However, icing every training session from here till you die is a gigantic pain in the ass! Also, it’s not smart to dose yourself with NSAID drugs indefinitely. We…

I have been training hard and pursing performance for over 21 years. Yes, there have been plenty of ups and downs. There’s certainly a lot that I would do differently if I only I could. But I’ve been mostly fortunate. I’ve had the time of my life! And I’ve managed to make the most of these humble, domesticated genetics. With that said, the last several years have been a struggle. Life has accelerated. I now have a family, a demanding career, and a long list of personal pursuits. As the years pass, I set the demands and expectations higher and higher. This keeps me fighting.
